First Crush isn't exactly the biggest winery in Paso Robles; in fact, we consider ourselves to be ultra-micro-boutique. We did something a little different this year, though, and entered Soul Mate, our 2008 Bordeaux blend, into the Central Coast Wine Competition. We are thrilled to share with you that Soul Mate, which is in your summer allotment, was awarded a silver medal in the Bordeaux Blend category!
In the 10th annual wine competion here on the Central Coast, there were over 500 wines entered and about 150 wineries competeing. Throughout the 10 years of this event, which is supported by California's State Fairs, it has grown to be one of the most respected wine competitions in the state, and can even boast that it has over 20 industry specialists jugding these fantastic wines. The judges, ranging from Playboy Mansion Exacutive Chef, William Bloxsom-Carter, to the Sommelier at the Culinary Institute of America, Traci Dutton, are truly experts when it comes to the quality and complexity of a wine, and Bordeaux varietals are no exception.
There were 27 amazing wines to be tasted and judged in the Bordeaux Blend category, and after a whole day of taste, rate, repeat the judges came to a decision that First Crush's 2008 Soul Mate would take second place! We have always focused on Bordeauxs as they are the favorite our winemaker and owner, Becky, and it turns out this decision was a leap to satisfaction.
We are absolutley beside ourselves with joy here at First Crush and we can't wait until each and every one of our Crush Club members has gotten their own award winning bottle of Soul Mate! Don't forget, this wine is available to all of our fans and we would love to share it with you. Our tasting room is open Saturdays and Sundays from 11-5, or you can get Soul Mate online in our store. Our fans are snatching it up, though, so get it quick, it won't last forever!
